Not according to the conversation I've just had with the Dental Exemption Checking Service.I was told receiving working tax credit has never made you eligible for free treatment.....hence I've just been fined for making an incorrect claim for treatment.
I reckon they've changed the rules but can't find anything to support my case hence me asking here.0 -

Yes,that's what I've been told today.I was never given a card....as a result of being self-employed I thought,but looks like I got it wrong
Surely the dentists...and I've been to 2 different ones....should have realised if I didn't have a card I wasn't eligible ?0 -
This is the form you signed http://www.shiredental.com/FP17PR.png
It does not have a tick box for working tax credit . It also says you understand it is your responsibility to check your exemption. You must have ticked a wrong box or signed the form without checking what boxes were ticked. It also says you will be fined for wrongly claiming you are exempt when you are not.
It is your responsibility not the dentists and more and more people are not getting fines for claiming they are exempt when they are not.
If you are not sure , pay , keep the receipt and you can claim it back if you are exempt.0 -
Looks like I don't have a leg to stand on.
Just a shame they didn't check before, they have collared me on a £220 bill that if I'd known I wouldn't have had.
You live and learn.

A tax credit exemption certificate is mentioned near the bottom of the right hand side.0 -

Does this include dentist as well as health?0 -
The flow chart covers dental.
The important thing is to read and tick the right box on the form. It specifically says tax credit does not entitle you to free dental treatment.
The other things that catch people out are pension credit and guaranteed pension credit , and contributions based and income based JSA.
This is complex to understand and dental staff are not trained and do not have the time to know exactly who is entitled to free treatment and who isn't. It is the responsibility of the person signing the form to know if and how they are entitled to free treatment.0
