Hi i,m looking for advice
i hope i choose the correct forum ( i'm new to this )
The DWP have contacted me saying i owe them £1322.21 from an over payment of benefit back in 2004.
I received a similar letter 2 yrs ago, i rang them and requested full details as i'm not aware of any over payment and such a huge sum i would have had to have been aware, back then i was working on a low salary and looking after 2 disabled children benefit came from multiple sources
Income support, DLA etc, but i have no idea where they are saying i was over paid.
I have heard not a jot for 2 yrs, no paper work or explanation just now a letter threatening an attachment to earnings.
surly i have a right to know why they feel i owe them money in detail, i have paid back all social loans i have received when on benefit without argument, i have now been working in a good job for the past 13 yrs and trying to remember every detail of my financial life from 2004 is a nightmare.
the whole thing is starting to severely stress me , though i earn a good living i have credit accounts and hp my rent and family to support the possibility of a 20% attachment is frightening when i have no knowledge of any such money.
Please advise me

Hi,
Go to there website, follow the correct complaints procedure to dispute this matter.
Any payment from 2004 would now be statute barred, however that just means the DWP can't take you to court to recover the money, they can claw it back by other methods.
You must keep complaining if you are ignored, they are useless at dealing with complaints, so be a thorn in their side until they supply you with evidence.
