Chutney

My wife and I bought a few chutneys from the Christmas market and through hey, lets make some ourselves! Did some research and got all of the required equipment - the problem now is that I can't find any decent recipes such as the sweet pepper and chilli chutney I bought, or the Cranberry and Port with onion chutney she bought.

Can anyone recommend some books or recipes to try? Preferably more savory than sweet, something that would taste nice on crackers for example :)

Also want to make a few of these for xmas gifts :D

have a look on Dehlias web site, but could be a bit late for making the Christmas gifts, chutney & pickles need to mature for a bit, not make & eat in a week

  • Farway, I'm thinking that now is a perfect time to make chutneys for Xmas gifts. Just let the recipient(s) know that they need to mature for at least a few weeks and will taste better in the new year/circa valentine's day. That way they wont be moaning that they are already buried under a mountain of Xmas food and have even more to work through, but have something nice to look forward to when things get back to normal.

I don't mean to be rude ... but that doesn't often stop me ... you start by deciding randomly to make chutney, you have no recipes ... and in the next breath you're talking of foisting your untested/untasted creations on others.

For the love of god .... just don't. :)

Just make it for yourself this year and see how you feel about it once you've got half a jar down your neck.

    :)
