Help!!! My Computer won't switch on!!!

I would be very grateful if anyone on here could give me some advice!!
My computer will not switch on, then about 5 minutes later, it comes on by itself!! Then it gets as far as the BIOS screen, and switches off again. This happens at least a dozen times, then it eventually works after about 2 hours!
Someone has told me that it may be a faulty power switch, but I don't want to start spending on it, if I would be better just investing in a new one, as I have had it for years!!
Once its on, it works fine, but I can't put it on standby as it just crashes!!!
I've got Avira anti-virus and do scan with spy-bot regularly. Also firewalled.
Thanks in advance for any help!!!!:T

Won't be software causing the issue so you are looking at hardware, possibly the PSU rather than the switch to be honest. Could also be the motherboard. Have you checked inside the PC casing to make sure all power cables from the PSU to the board and drives are plugged in fully?0

I will get my brother in law to check this!! He was the last one to mess with my computer when he increased the memory for me!!
Think I will pop out and get a new PSU today - I am lost without this one working properly!!
Thank you very much!!!!0 -
Did the power issue start anytime near the memory upgrade?0

No! It was about a month ago that he upgraded it!0

Probably just coincidence then, get him to check what wattage PSU you have installed and then look for a cheap unit that is at LEAST that powerful. Post back for advice if you want any help finding a good, cheap one.0
