When do I need to file my tax return?

I really don't know much, if anything, about tax. I registered as self-employed in October. I've looked online and I see that the deadline to file your tax returns is in January but that says for the tax year April 2015-April 2016. So, when would I need to file my tax return as I only registered as self employed in October this year? Also, probably a very dumb question, when you file your tax return, do you include the tax payment? Sorry. I'm clueless!

When you registered is irrelevant, it's when your business started which matters.
If that was October 2016 (and you have no need to complete a tax return for any other reason) then you will need to submit your first return by 31:01:2018.
Any tax/nic/student loan would be payable then as well and you may also have to make a payment on account towards your 2017:18 tax bill at the same time although whether this is required or not is only known once you have filed your 2016:17 return.0
