Richard Hammond is one of our best-loved television presenters, watched by millions every Sunday on Top Gear. It was whilst filming for Top Gear, driving a jet-powered dragster at speeds over 300mph, that a tyre burst and the car left the track and rolled over, burying him in the earth and causing him to suffer serious brain injury.
In On the Edge Richard talks about that accident and the year spent recovering from it, as well his lifelong obsession with speed which ultimately led the father of two to risk it all for a TV show. A daredevil and a petrol head long before his association with Top Gear, Richard tells the story of his life. After a series of jobs in local radio, he graduated to television and eventually to Top Gear, upgrading his car with each step up the ladder. His insights into the personalities, the camaraderie and, of course, the stunts for which Top Gear has become famous make compulsive reading.
If you share Richard's need for speed, you're in luck as we are giving five lucky winners the chance to win a race day at Silverstone. You will be able to pick the dream car of your choice and embark on laps of the one the world's most famous tracks.
