fixed term contracts

Hi all
I'm hoping someone could give me advice. I've been employed by an FE college for 4 years now. The first 3 years I was on fixed-term variable hour contracts (zero hour contracts in all but name). This year I have a one year fixed-term contract.
I've come to realise that my one year fixed-term contract is for August - end of June. The college is claiming that by 'one year' they meant one academic year. The per annum pay is therefore being calculated according to fractional calculation. However, the per annum working hours are not being fractionalised, and I am expected to do all of them during my contract time.
When my contract ends I will be owed a months holidays, which they will pay off in my last wage packet, as I am not allowed to take them during the time my contract runs.
I realise that due to the academic holidays, the annual working hours are squashed into a 36 week period, but the end result of all of this is that I will do exactly the same work as the permanent staff, but will earn around £1K less. It is a step forward, as previously I earned around £5k less. However, I'm sick to death of being disposable, and somehow less worthy than the permanent staff. Even though these contracts end at the end of each academic year, I'm still expected to prepare for the next sessions classes like the other staff.
I've tried looking at the legalities of it all, but it's so confusing.
Thanks.

Union?
Plus, if your contract ends in June, what do their expectations matter? Are you preparing for your own classes, or for other people's?Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
if you have 4 years service and they are not planning to renew that's a redundancy.0
