How to become a Mortgage Adviser... Again

Firstly sorry for writing this not in the Employment forum, but I fealt I was much more likely to have appropriate people to see my post in here.
I was a Mortgage Adviser for over 4 years at high street bank.
I have then spent last 2 years in a different industry which I have left in November.
I really want to get back to be a mortgage adviser gain but the employers are not interested in me at all as I have been away from mortgage business for 2 years.

Could anyone possibly suggest me anything of how I could get back on track?

I was considering becoming a self-employed adviser but would have no clue how to do it, not in terms of finding a clientelle but from operational side, such as who would do my compliance, how do I get relationships with the banks in order to be able to sell their products?

I will be extremely grateful for any useful advices

If you do prefer employment with a firm to begin with, you might have to consider trying to get a foot in even as a trainee mortgage broker?

It probably will be poorly remunerated (low basic salary) at the start but once you start writing some business your income should pick up. Having said that, being a broker at a whole of market firm possibly requires more sales skills than as a lender based adviser.

Out of interest, where in the country are you? Any big cities within commuting distance?

Or you could try speaking to a bank.

The problem you have is that although you have CeMap, so do thousands of others. It is not really relevant to the job (ironic eh!).

You need obtain CAS and to do that someone has to spend time training you up and assessing your cases, it is quite time consuming. Added to that, you have nothing to bring to the table in terms of leads/client bank.

Dont let me put you off, I was in the same boat as you 4 years ago, so it can be done. You just need to look for the opportunities around you maybe see if there is anyone you used to work with who would take you on?

It doesn't seems like anyone is interested in me even for a trainee roles.

    I am near to London
  • Is there at all a way of becoming a self efficient broker. Eg. setting up one man business, where for a cut of profits some firm would do my compliance and provide me with the IT allowing me to submit applications to the banks.

I am just desperate to get some recent experience as it seems I am not getting anywhere without it.

Not as a start point. You are not 'competent' won't get regulated unless you are supervised.

Go to a Bank. If there jobs are not there, look for the message.

Any of the corporate EA firms looking?

You could spend a year with the likes of Countrywide, get CAS then move on. I'd be surprised if they don't have a high turnover and are regularly looking for new blood...
