Hello everyone
Declared BR by HMRC back in October, not working at the time, nice brief and polite meeting with the OR and everything has gone completely quiet since...as expected I guess
i am about to formally start a new job with a start-up, and obviously need to inform the OR, is this as simple as just picking up the phone or are there any hoops i need to jump through-
My salary is modest and in fact won't quite cover my rent and expenditure, so i will need some additional assistance, however my rent is high, West London and all that...it is a modest property and i pay the market rate, however i'm concerned (as touched on in a previous thread) that now i am earning the OR may take an interest and apply pressure to get me to move-how likely is this? he didn't bat an eyelid at my rent during our meeting, but i wasn't earning then
also the company is a start-up which i am actively involved in, as its my area of expertise if you like, i am not on the board, have no access to any financial aspects of the business, not a shareholder, but i am assisting in various areas, i mentioned this to the OR and he was quite relaxed, i wonder whether i should clarify it all again to him, at the risk of opening a can of worms-

When you get your first wage let the OR know that you are earning and how much. I assume that the support you are getting from family will reduce so you will be in the same circumstances moneywise as you are now so there will be minimal change to your SoA, maybe an increase in petrol to get to work.
If the OR was happy that you stay where you are when you were being supported then he will fine if you are earning. I assume it is not to o big for your needs and is a normal rent for the area.
Only answer if asked. Don't wake a sleeping tiger etc. You've given him all the information he's asked for if he wants more he'll ask.
I would do everything by email so you have a paper trail and you can show you've done your bit if asked about things later.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
thanks for this, no its not too big, as I have my kids 4 days per fortnight and it just about sleeps all of us when they are here
the issue with the SOA is that I didn't provide one! I completely missed the page on the questionnaire, when we got to that page in the OR interview and I noticed I had missed it I was mortified, however the OR just said 'oh don't worry we won't need that as you aren't working'
so assume I should just inform them of the wage and leave it at that?
thanks again0 -
A quick email to say that your wage is xx and your support has dropped by xx.
Then if the OR wants you to supply an SoA you can do so at this point. If you want to have help with it then just pop it up.
The property is suitable for your needs and is normal rent for the area then that will be fine too.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
