Anyone do crossfit?

Crossfit is pretty expensive in most places but it is cheaper than a personal trainer and even some gyms! Anyone do it? Recommend it?

  • normally lots of local places do it now, in York there is plenty. Don't know about else where but in York prices are around £60 for an open gym pass or pay as you go for classes. I would imagine they will do a first taster session free. If you don't like squatting, dead lifting, pull ups or over head pressing you probably wont like crossfit.

I have been going to Crossfit for the past 2 years. Yes it is expensive compared to a standalone gym but I get a progression plan, specific coaching and a fantastic group of friends who encourage me and hold me accountable. What I will say is look around and try different crossfit gyms (boxes) in your area. Some are better than others. When I started out I just joined my local crossfit box. Whilst I enjoyed it I was worried that the coaches were not great. I soon moved to another box and fell in love with the place. I was injury free and making good progression. I then moved house out of the area and had to find a new box. I was lucky in that there are two Crossfit boxes in my town so I joined each for a month. This gave me the chance to get a vibe from the place and see which one I preferred (it's not one box fits all). I picked the box that I felt most at home in and haven't looked back since. I am very lucky in that in my box one of the coaches is a nutritionist and provides advice on food choices etc and is also a competing powerlifter, another coach is a gymnast specialist and keeps us on the straight and narrow with our gymnastics, another is a yoga teacher so keeps us all flexible and we have two dedicated olympic lifting coaches. The box is also affiliated to British Weighlifting and we have regular seminars with a mindset coach also. So as you can see some boxes offer more than others.
Hope that helps, any questions feel free to fire them at me!
    Just little old me!
