Any epidemiologist folk out there?

HI,
I am interested in switching careers from a biomedical science background into public health/epidemiology. I already have a Masters degree in Biomedical Science but I have seen a MSc in Public Health at a local university (with the possibility of NHS funding).
I am so fed up of the hours we work in pathology and definitely want to change but I want to stay in an area that interests me (health and disease).
If you are an epidemiologist can you advise on how you entered the profession and what kind of salary I would be looking at. Also, can I work from HOME?

My cousin had a degree in microbiology. Got a band 5 job straight out of uni working as a data manager, applied for the band 6 epidemiologist post two years later having worked on various health surveillance programmes and then got the band 7 and is now working on his MSc public health. The degree is fairly useless without the experience.0
