I've just gone onto online banking to transfer money over to another account and have found that Amazon have taken £79 for their 'prime' service. I'm pretty annoyed about it, I've never signed up for it so have no idea why they've suddenly taken this money.
The last thing I bought from Amazon was a pair of trainers that cost £11 and came with free delivery. This was about 9 weeks ago. I use Amazon very rarely so have no use for this service.
I'm on hold atm but what is the likelihood that I'll get the money back, considering I've never asked for it?? £79 is a lot to lose, to a company I never use, at this time of year (although it's not going to impact me on that front as I finished shopping 2 months ago)

Lots of items on Amazon are offered with free delivery if you sign up for a trial of Prime. I suspect you may have inadvertently signed up for this when buying this trainers. If you tell them you don't require the service and do not recall ticking that box they may refund you. Do also be aware that Prime auto renews each year if you don't cancel it, so if they decline a refund ensure that they cancel the auto renewal for you.0

Thank you placitsagirl for your reply. Would they email you to 'thank' you for signing up? I've had no such email, if I had this could have been sorted because it's not a service I either want, nor need! Also, when you log in and put something in your basket would it show that you have this prime service? I put something in my basket last week, went to checkout but changed my mind and bought elsewhere but the delivery cost was still showing on the item before I deleted it....would it not have said 'free because of your prime membership' or something like that? (can you tell I have no idea what I'm talking about because I don't use Amazon??)0

I agree with the above post, that this is the most likely scenario.
Check your account, best on a PC as not all options appear on a mobile, you will see if you have prime or not, and how to cancel.
Amazon are usually pretty good at stuff like this, and bend over backwards to keep customers happy most of the time.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. If you log into your amazon account then go to this link - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/primecentral?ie=UTF8&ref_=ya_manage_prime it will tell you when you subscribed (presumably because of a trial).
They're usually pretty nice and there's a fair chance they'll cancel it for you0 -
Under settings, it lists your prime membership, if you have it.

I was wondering about the offers I was getting from Amazon that are not in my interests.
Just checked my account and found I was an unknowing "Prime" member.
A few clicks and and it was cancelled .
No problem and very easy with an email to confirm it.
Thanks again.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
They usually refund it if you haven't made use of it since the payment was taken. You may have to argue a bit if you have used it but if you genuinely are are rare user you could prob argue your case. They do add the free trial automatically, you have to actively untick the box.Mortgage Outstanding Nov '16 £142,772.75Mortgage Additional OPs 2017 Target £4522.80/ Actual £865.00GC Feb 0/£2000

For the last couple of month's Amazon's been sporadically throwing up a page mid check out that tells you all about free shipping, and has a very small link at the bottom that says "no thanks, I don't want a free Prime trial". It's also been defaulting the shipping option to "free next day delivery with Prime", so even if you say no thanks you still have to manually select the normal free option.
I understand why they're pushing it extra hard at this time of year, but it's disingenuous to make you say no twice, and it's very easy to see how people sign up by accident. Which, of course, is why Amazon is so happy to refund people so no one makes a big public fuss.
Having said all that, my other half has Prime because we watch a lot of the TV shows! But I need it even less, because if I ever did need something next day delivery, I'd just get him to order it.Mortgage
