I know someone who works for a company and if someone has a bump they must report it immediately to manager who arranges a drug and drink test within a few hours and an enquiry is also launched as to the circumstances of the accident. All the vehicles have on board tracking and the data is downloaded and examined.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

It's also possible, as others have said, that there have been other issues, so the employer wants to deal firmly with this incident. Your friend will have the opportunity to put forward their side of things at the meeting he has with his employer.

I think that is most likely. If one of ours has a bump, then we'll ask the circumstances etc, but it wouldn't be a disciplinary or even an off the record talk. However, I did have one driver whose accident record was not as good as other drivers and following a (minor) bridge strike, we held a disciplinary meeting.

A friend at work is having a disciplinary after driving into the back of a car in his works van. It was a minor bump. But our boss is determined to make an example of him with a written warning.
    Can they do this?

Yes, of course they can. He is powerless to stop them!

You cannot go to an employment tribunal about any disciplinary sanction short of dismissal. So, if they hold a hearing, find against him and impose, say, a warning his only option would be an internal appeal.

All he can do is co-operate, put his side of the story (if he has a valid excuse) or apologise profusely. He is entitled to be accompanied by a work colleague or a trades union representative.
