is vat addable to labour?

I ask this BecausE I had to take my car to the garage and they added up the labour and parts and then added the vat to the total.

it didn't seem right to me but I have looked through my other receipts and it hasn't been broken down before.

am I right?

thanks

    If the labour adds value, and it does, then of course it's VATable.
    VAT= Value Added Tax

    Absolutely correct - unless your previous bills have been from non VAT registered traders (unlikely given the turnover of even a small car maintenance operation)
