Tough Mudder

Has anyone done this and is there an age limit for which it is suitable?
I am 52 in reasonable shape and quite like a challenge.
Its the sort of thing I would love to do. Running is too dull for me.

Not done one but I don't see any reason why you couldn't do it.
Its not so much about running its more just enjoying the teamwork. I've known people do these that are not very fit fullstop and they have all made it round fine.

My son has done it a few times, he's 22. I've been to spectate and I would say that the participants are quite varied in age, stamina and fitness.
I understand that it is not a race, it's a challenge to yourself to get around the course, there is no pressure to finish in a certain timeframe.
I have toyed with the idea myself, but not had the guts to sign up yet, I'm 50, maybe I will for next year.
You should go for it, tick it off the bucket list!
    Good luck

So there are plenty older runners like me?

I may do the 1/2 one first.

I've done a few total warriors, very similar just a different company, did the 12k at leeds and the 10k in the lakes.
I suffer from cystic fibrosis and i managed to do both in very good time.
I wondered before doing them what everyone else would be like but i would say 70% were more towards the un-fit side and were doing it for a charity or for a personal challenge which was brilliant to see.
Also there was more fit people with far less will power who were pulling out during the course.

I'm a similar age. I might have to look into this...

I have done loads of ocrs now and absolutely love them. The community is very inclusive and all shapes sizes and fitness levels take part. Tough mudder isn't a race, more a challenge. There is no timing and you can take it all at your own pace. The fun is being with your mates and helping each other along. Ukocr is a great group, I'm a member myself. I would recommend some decent trail shoes. I did TM this year to tick the box for "oh you do obstacle races - is that tough mudder". So many were just wearing old trainers. You need grip. If you never plan on doing any again then more miles cheviot 3 are good. Cheap and plenty of grip. If you think you may do more then I am a big fan of inov8 shoes. You can get last years models at heavily discounted prices. I'd go for x talons or mudclaws. Pm me if you want more info. There are excellent races all around the country though so if TM is too much there will be one that will be right for you. all are welcoming to newbies. It's a great community

I've done 6 Tough Mudders and I can say that you would not be the oldest to attempt it at all!

The people are very helpful and welcoming, so you wouldn't get stranded anywhere.

What I *would* suggest is that you try working on your upper body strength from now til the event (if you do one) as it is the most important part of the event

If you're going to to an OCR, there are far better and far cheaper than Tough Mudder. It gets by because it's a famous one, but compared to a lot of other OCRs it's not very good at all and hideously overpriced.

  • I don't see any reason why you cant. It's challenging and takes a lot of preparation but its definitely fun too.
