On-grid domestic battery storage

Put one on your Christmas list.:santa2:
I'll wait and see what the quote from think renewables is like but I've had a quote from a local installer of £540 for the installation and I should be able to get the Pylons and Sofar (4.8khw) for around £2k with a bit of haggling giving an ROI of around 7-8 years.
That seems not too bad given the numbers you guys are quoting.Scott in Fife, 2.9kwp pv SSW facing, 2.7kw Fronius inverter installed Jan 2012 - 14.3kwh Seplos Mason battery storage with Lux ac controller - Renault Zoe 40kwh, Corsa-e 50kwh, Zappi EV charger and Octopus Go0 -
Just had an email from think renewables.
Still waiting for a price from the installer but apparently, the Sofar warranty is only 5 years and it's a further £150 or so to extend to 10 years.
The Lux charge controller comes with a 10 year warranty so that pretty much cancels out the difference in price between the two.
So it's a no brainer, I'll be going with the Lux and 2 Pylons.Scott in Fife, 2.9kwp pv SSW facing, 2.7kw Fronius inverter installed Jan 2012 - 14.3kwh Seplos Mason battery storage with Lux ac controller - Renault Zoe 40kwh, Corsa-e 50kwh, Zappi EV charger and Octopus Go0 -
Sorry for the depression, what I didnt include in the remuneration was the immense satisfaction you get when powering the house by your own free electricity, both in the momentary cloud cover when the washing machine is on, and then when the sun has went down.

Sorry mean to say, re install, these systems are pretty darn easy to install if you are happy with a bit of diy, then it's just an electrician you need for an hour to make it live.
The only consideration you need is that there will be 3 wires running to the leccy box.

Yeah, had thought about that to shave a bit off the install cost.
Doesn't seem too much to it.Scott in Fife, 2.9kwp pv SSW facing, 2.7kw Fronius inverter installed Jan 2012 - 14.3kwh Seplos Mason battery storage with Lux ac controller - Renault Zoe 40kwh, Corsa-e 50kwh, Zappi EV charger and Octopus Go0 -

Yes, although this is a money saving forum, we can get too hung up on justifying every decision purely on financial grounds. If it gives you satisfaction it is just as worthwhile spending the money on batteries as upgrading to the latest 4K tv. I have just spent close to £1k adding a couple of “essential” enhancements to my car that won’t save me a penny but will give me pleasure (I hope).
When I decided to buy my solar panels it was a money saving decision (I know that’s the wrong thing to say on here but no apologies) then once I got them it became a hobby and that led me to all you lovely people on this forum where I have wiled away many happy hours.
I have considered batteries (in fact I had one for over 3 months) but in my own personal situation (lack of PV generation in winter from an E/W roof, coupled with IBoost and ASHPs) I think they would cause me as much frustration as you get satisfaction.
Just enjoy your batteries and if they pay for themselves then that is a bonus.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -

If I got batteries, I'd assume that I'd need to disconnect my solarImmersion otherwise it would compete with the batteries for surplus leccy?4kWp, Panels: 16 Hyundai HIS250MG, Inverter: SMA Sunny Boy 4000TLLocation: Bedford, Roof: South East facing, 20 degree pitch20kWh Pylontech US5000 batteries, Lux AC inverter,Skoda Enyaq iV80, TADO Central Heating control0 -

My IBoost did but worse than that it detected discharge from the battery as PV and got into a right tangle.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -

24 kwh charge @ 5p/kWh + a bit of solar should run you house & the ASHPs all day & all night.
ASHP: 6p/kWh after the round trip loss with a COP of 4 works out at 1.5p/kWh of heat. Pylon US2000 x 10! How much will that lot cost me installed?
Oil is about 52p a litre or about 5.2 per kWh. Winter leccy import is probably about 24 kWh/day if the sun doesn’t shine - good guess.
