Personal shopper prize

I've always wondered about personal shopper prizes. Anyone ever won and what happens? Did you feel pressured to buy an item of clothing?
Or did you go to a high class place like Harvey Nicks and feel a bit out of place?

I won a £1,000 Reiss card earlier in the year which included a personal shopper experience. However when I went to collect the gift card they never mentioned about the personal shopper bit and I conveniently never mentioned it either so I got away with it. :D

A brilliant prize but wow have you seen how much their clothes are? Crazy prices. £65 for a scarf made in China

I still have a few hundred left as I cannot get into my head to justify say £125 for a jumper. I did treat myself to a gorgeous black leather jacket at £495 :eek::eek:

I've won a few and always asked as I'm a bit nervous could I just pick up the card and shop by myself and they have been fine, That was House of fraser, John Lewis and Selfridges.

Good to know, toniq! I often decide against entering a competition if it mentions a personal shopper!

I won a weekend in London with £500 and a personal shopper experience quite a few years ago.

I gave it to my sister for her birthday, as she'd been through a very tough time, but I went with her. She received the £500 cheque before we went and we were picked up in a taxi from the hotel by the personal shopper. She took us to a few boutique places and we did feel very out of place. My sister ended up just getting a pair of jeans and a pair of boots for the £500!!

Now, they were nice, but we wish we had insisted on going to Oxford Street or something instead. She felt that, even though it wasn't technically her money, she could have gotten so much more and kind of wasted the opportunity. The personal shopper also took us out for lunch, but it was a very snooty place and we would have been much happier at a TGIs!!

If you do ever win anything like that, make sure you make the most of it and insist on shopping where you want to shop and not where the personal shopper prefers.

One of my cousins worked in Reiss a few years ago and staff were entitled to 70% employee discount because they had to be wearing Reiss clothing while working!

I won one at House of Fraser and was nervous about it beforehand but it was actually really great. I basically got taken to a private changing room where I got to relax with a cup of tea whilst the shopper went and got a load of things for me to try on, based on asking me what i like, my size and my figure. She chose some things that I never would have thought would suit me, but they were great when I actually put them on. I suppose this is why she's a personal shopper and I'm not... Anyway she was lovely, didn't pressure me into anything or rush me at all. I would definitely go again - it was the most relaxing shopping experience I've ever had.
  • I won one at John Lewis and hated it tbh. The terms said I had to use the appointment to get the voucher though. I know what I like and don't like! I just basically told the personal shopper what to bring me to try on lol, and bought the stuff I liked - it was quite awkward for both of us. But I got £250 of vouchers so I'd do it again!

  • I won a personal shopping experience at River Island with £250 to spend, everything the stylist picked out was hideous xD I was able to pick a couple of items for myself but everything else had to be what she had chosen, so I just pretended I liked them and figured eh, they were free and at least I got a skirt and top I liked!
