Help with holidays and hours? Care worker

I started working as a home carer at the beginning of the year and I said I wanted to do 25 hours so she put down 25 hours and I signed it, she never mentioned a zero hour contract or anything so I assumed my contract was 25. I never got a copy of what I signed just an employment handbook type thing, I got my 25 hours for a couple months then it started to decrease only by an hour a week which I wasn't too concerned about but it's now come to be point where I am doing 13 hours this week; because people are in hospital etc and I'm a bit concerned! They said around Christmas hours do drop as people become unwell etc, which is fine but surely they should try and give me more work I can only work mornings but I've asked to work in he care home on site rather than patients homes. I am due to ggo on holiday and I'm wondering what hours are they gonna pay me are they gonna pay me 25 hours or are they gonna pay me for whatever hours are on there rota for my shift. I will be going in tomorrow and asking but the hr lady in our office isn't very helpful! Any help would be great

  • You should have received the terms and conditions of your employment from your employer, in writing, within two calendar months of starting work. See http://www.acas.org.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1577

However, be aware that your employer can dismiss you on a whim at any time during the first two years of your employment, so if you rock the boat too much, you may risk your job....

Can you not ask them for a copy of what you signed on your first day? Point out to them that you should have SOMETHING....

IF you are on a zero hours contract, a week’s holiday pay is the average pay you worker got over the previous 12 weeks (in which you were paid). See https://www.gov.uk/holiday-entitlement-rights/holiday-pay-the-basics
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).
  • I'm actually pregnant aswell so I'm hoping they don't get rid of me. He uses the excuse of me being pregnant saying I won't be able to do certain people and I'll be thankful for less hours but surely that's my decision
