Damson Gin Containers

Hi there, have started off some damson gin, but am having problems with the containers so need to transfer the contents into something else. The only things that seem suitable are plastic milk bottles. My questions are - would that be ok? and also would the bottles need sterilising and with what. They have been washed out with hot water & washing up liquid.

I always use empty plastic pop bottles. The best size to use is the 1& a half or 2 litre sizes This gives plenty of room for shaking the contents to get the sugar to disslove. I make it straight into these - the damsons push in easily. When you come to the final bottling you can cut them open to get the last dregs out.
When my children were little I used to tape up the caps so that they couldn't get into it easily if they found it in the cupboard & thought it was pop.
Just rinse out bottles with warm water - no need to sterilise as the alcohol does that.
    Hope this helps:beer:

  • When making mine a few years ago I went into our local sweet shop and asked for one of those big jars that the sweets come in. Lots of room for a large bottle of gin and lots of damsons.

I would probably sterilise an old milk container as I keep sterilising tablets in anyway.

I used a 2 litre plastic squash bottle for my sloe gin.
