  • Really helpful comments, thank you all. I will go back to the salesman with these figures and see what he says- it does seem he has been rather over optimistic in his prediction, so I am going to ask him to justify his calculations in writing.
  • The replacement cost of my inverter should it go wrong was one of his selling points, but they gave me a 20 year guarantee on it anyway when first installed! He also suggested I could sell the original one on eBay for £200 pounds or so- I haven't looked to see how feasible that is yet.
What a helpful forum this is, I shall be spending more time here!

Hiya, the £200 figure sounds fair. I looked into it when I was having a ponder, mine were probably worth £100 + £250 at the time, less now as they are out of warranty. They are SunnyBoys.

TBH if you have a 20yr guarantee, I think that's the final nail in the coffin of this deal, as you seem to have reasonable generation, and decent future cover on the one component that is likely/possible to fail during the first 20yrs.

Fun fact - as I know a few people who sold their inverters on E-Bay. Anyone thinking of doing this, plan ahead before it's disonnected. Then take a 'proof of life' style photo of the inverter still working, with a newspaper (or something to prove the date), and ideally with the number of kWhs showing.

In this way for example Techoid could show that it works, and hasn't done a lot of work.
