Surround sound on PS4 slim?

Hi, we now have a PS4 slim and I notice there does not seem to be any optical out even though the manual talks about using an optical out for surround sound. Is it not possible to get surround sound from a PS4 slim? What's the point of it being able to have dts 7.1 etc if there's no way of connecting it to a sound system?

I don't believe PS4 Slim has optical out. It'll pass 7.1 through HDMI, hopefully your receiver will be compatible.0

They removed optical from the slim. HDMI carries surround sound as well as optical can, and of course it's more convenient to have just one cable, so HDMI has kindof moved optical out of the way. PS4 Pro, and of course the old PS4, would be the answer. I'm sure there are converter devices but they might be a faff.0

Thanks.
What does the remote play function do? Does the PS4 play 3D blu rays? Occasionally I have been getting a black screen or flickering (briefly). Is there a setting set incorrectly which is trying to give an advanced function our tv can't cope with? Or do I simply have something like a dodgy hdmi cable? It is the cable that came with the system.0 -
The PS4 plays 3D BDs no problems. The remote play function allows you to connect to the PS4 over a network and play the PS4 on another device such as a PlayStation TV, Vita or a Windows PC or Mac. Software for Windows or Mac is available here.0

Thankyou.
I have an Xperia phone so I guess I could play a game that is on the PS4 on the phone? Although as I guess I would need the PS4 on(obvious) and be at home, I am not sure what the point of it is. If you could play while out and about through wifi or 4g then maybe.0
