importing wine from the EU

Can anyone help with this please?
Found out that to import 12 bottles of wine , about 9 litres will cost me about £150! [cost of wine and delivery 100 Euro].
Is there a FREE import duty calculator available somewhere?
Girando wines in Italy send the wine direct to me for £59 + £8 delivery.
So why does an individual have to pay so much?
I do not mind paying 20% but I thought belonging to the EU meant some tax reductions when importing.
