Two jobs- tax

Hi,

When somebody has more than one job how does HMRC deduct tax from say three jobs? Would i need to phone HMRC?
Thanks

Comments

  • Each employment would need to have a tax code, so if the first job pays more than £11K a year, it would make sense to have the whole of the tax free allowance allocated to that employer (i.e. 1100). Other employers should deduct tax on the whole salary by using a BR tax code (i.e. 20%).

It is also possible to split the tax code between employers (e.g.. 600 to one, 500 to the other), depends on circumstances. If you call HMRC and explain your position, i.e. number of jobs and expected remuneration for each, they should be able to adjust the tax code appropriately.
