need info urgently please

Where to start. I am in so much debt, I don't even want to go there but, suffice to say I was working full time and hubby also. All the bills we have were manageable until I went on the sick. Have been now for a year and can not see me going back in the near future. Anyway, I have managed up to now paying everyone, credit cards, two loans and a car on finance.
My problem is, I can not declare myself bankrupt, I don't want to do that. My car is a lifeline, no car I would be housebound, so this is deffo not an option.
I did try phoning virgin to ask to lower my interest rate on the card and M and S and they just laughed at me. This would solve my problem if they would do it as the interest is what is killing us financially. I just need to know how to do it and put it to them.
Can anyone help please?

    Hi

there are two things you need to do.

One is to put together a Statement of Affairs, see here for how to do it

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=107280

post that here and people can start to help you. But you may also need to contact CCCS, CAB or Payplan to get help with your debts. It may be that shuffling things will work or you may need a Debt Managment Plan.

Hi there SpenderBlender and welcome to the board

As others have mentioned, the best thing is to write down your SOA and then post it up on here and we can all help find ways that you can cut down your outgoings and you can get some good advice.

Look forward to watching your progress :D

  • Hi all and thankyou. I feel much better just knowing there are people to talk to so to speak. I am brave enough now to own up to the debt on here and, to realise now that I have to stop spending. However, I am not brave enough yet to put it it out for all to see.
    Still working on that one.

Actually it is quite a relief to put it out for all to see. I wasn't too brave at first but it does need to be done. But in your own time..

I would ring national debtline. They are very good and sympathetic. You should first of all draw up your budget and work out just how much money you have/don't have to pay your debts, then ring the creditors and offer them what you can. Most of them will put you on a debt management plan and stop the interest.

National debtline have a website that can help you do all these things.

  • You will feel a huge sense of relief when you post your SOA - the sharing of it means that you are letting others 'in' to help and support you.
