Question regarding travel

Hi All,
Hopefully a simple question:
I'm currently living in Liverpool and have been travelling to Manchester for 5 years for work. My role may be moving to Liverpool next year, which is amazing for me! However, I expect they'll be asking me to travel to the Manchester office fairly regularly (at least once a week).
Currently my contract has Manchester as my place of work. I expect to have this updated to Liverpool, however I was wondering what kind of allowances I can ask for when travelling to Manchester, if any? Its 36 miles apart from Lpool by car, or £18.50 return by train.
Am I being unreasonable considering asking for travel allowance?
Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks

When I have to travel to somewhere which isn't my usual place of work we are allowed to claim for the difference in home to work miles versus home to anywhere else (assuming the 'anywhere else' is more miles). Your work may be different and not sure if they have to give you anything.0

If you have taken a that requires travelling there every day and you decide to try and claim expenses because you now only travel there once a week, you could be seen to be taking the !!!!.
If this is a big company that doesn't matter. Nobody will care, it's not their money and the rules are the rules.
If it's a small company they won't be very happy with you.0 -
Thanks for the quick replies both. It's a global financial institution Scorpion. The reason for asking the question is that I'll no long be contracted to the Manchester location, meaning any travel to that office will be an exception. Currently I am contracted here and would not consider claiming any expense.
I don't have my contract to hand unfortunately, and will need to take a look tonight regarding travel. I know it mentioned relocation to within a reasonable distance (usually less than 50 miles) is written in to it.Started 07/15. Car finance £6951 , Mortgage: 261k - Savings: £0! I'm aware that they could say 'well you've been paying £2300 p/a to travel for 5 years, now it will only cost you £500 p/a to and from Liverpool, and £1k a year to go to and from Manchester once a week'...
The fact it costs double to go to Manc once a week for a year than it does for an annual pass to Liverpool is the reason I'm questioning it.Started 07/15. Car finance £6951 , Mortgage: 261k - Savings: £0! Home improvements are expensive0 -

We're a small company and always pay expenses if someone has to work away from the normal base.
I would ask if I was you dcouponzzz, it seems reasonable.
And well done on the shortened commute. It's nearly 26 years I've been commuting down the M62:eek:0 -

My colleague, who has worked his commute out over 17 years, shorter distance, but bad roads so about as long as mine, worked out that he had spent about 18 months, working on 24 hours a day., getting to and from work.
Not working mine out.
Enjoy your extra free time - well jel!:p0 -
Is this the place based across OPG and 3HS? If so, I'm sure they'll pay the travel expenses once the role relocates.Started 30/08/2011Biggest Wins: GHD's, 5* Trip to London, VIP Trip to Isle of MTV Festival in Malta.

If it's a global financial institution then the people responsible for paying your travel expenses won't even know or care where you live or used to work. Just claim whatever the rules allow you to claim.0
