Second (sort of) mortgage

Hello
Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I did search to no avail.
This may be a monumentally stupid question.
My partner owns his house, I'm not on the mortgage/deeds.
He has a mortgage of around £160K and around £600k in equity.
We would like to convert our loft - he can't remortgage as he is self-employed and things are much stricter than when he bought the house.
Question - can I take out a second mortgage on his house?
Thank you

In your own name. No.0

As above, not in your own name.
I know this isn't what you asked but I'll throw it in as I have seen people - women, usually) get burned...
it's not your house and you're not married. If you find another way to raise the money (such as a personal loan) make sure your money is protected in a legally watertight way. You have no more rights than a lodger and proving an interest via giving him money is not straightforward.0
