Dental Treatment Abroad: Best way to pay

I'm going to Hungary in November for some dental treatment.

My bill is estimated at £3K.

The clinic offers a 5% discount for cash, but I'm not keen on carrying a lot of money...although 5% would equate to a payment on a card.

I have about half of the money saved up so need another £1500.

Should I just use my overdraught and then arrange to balance transfer when I get home.

or

Apply for the Post Office Card and forget about the cash discount.

or

...something else?

Thanks in advance

PS. Great advice on here, so far I've tarted and got my balance down, got a new nokia n95 free, and have switched to cheaper gas & electricity. We're now looking at advice on moving house.

Or save your life and get treatment in the UK from a proper practice who allow payments in installments:D
  • Or save your life and get treatment in the UK from a proper practice who allow payments in installments:D

For proper practice replace with robbing b*****d at a cost £10K.

Thanks but that's not the kind of advice I was after
  • and theres a reason its cheaper abroad:rolleyes:

So you've been abroad for dental treatment?

Do you have 1st hand knowledge??

Or (as I suspect) do you know someone who spoke to someone who posted on a forum saying all their teeth fell out as soon as they landed back in UK???

Please, I have done my research and made my decision...I'm going!

I didn't want to enter into a debate about skills, quality & Y.G.W.Y.P.F.

I'm asking for advice on best way to pay for something abroad and save money.

Pay by credit card. It may cost you 5%, but you have already saved 7000 and if the worst happens you can always sue your credit card company for the return of the 3000 which you could put towards any future costs. Sometimes the 5% is worth it. Make sure you pay by card rather than using your card for a cash advance though.

  • Would the clinic accept a debit card payment as cash? Its an instant transaction but a lot safer than carrying cash. Might be worth asking the question
  • Payments by credit cards would be ideal. It is the preferred mode of payment for patients visiting Goa - India. However you will have to inform your bank about the transaction which you are likely to do. There are cases where the credit cards are frozen by banks when the transaction are in foreign countries.

How is your life going to change so that your £3k of dental work doesn't go the same way as your own teeth?
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

This is such a patronising comment!
I bet you know nothing of the OP's life and circumstances.
