Tea cosy for teapot

Options
Where on earth do you get a tea cosey for a teapot these days?

I have suddenly discovered the joys of using a teapot and need a tea cosey to keep the pot warm and I cannot get a cover anywhere! I'm having to make do with a teatowel wrapped round it which is not really very efficient.

Thanks

I remember knitting one at school, orange and cream it was and had to be very simple. I think it went a bit like this:

Cast on in colour 1, length needs to be greater than half the diameter of the largest part of your pot and then plus a bit as you ruche the knitting to give it some depth. The number of stitches needs to be a multiple of 8 as well. You then knit about 4 rows (knit each row so very simple). On the next row knit 4 stitches and then join in colour 2, knit 4 stitches then switch back to colour 1 looping the spare thread across the back. By keeping the thread across the back shorter than the knitting it pulls the piece into a ruched effect and gives the insulation. I hope that makes sense. The effect is like this one:

I don’t think we did any reducing when we got to the top of the piece but what we probably did was pass a thread through the stitches and gather. You need to knit 2 identical pieces and then join the sides leaving a small gap on one side for the spout and a larger one on the other side for the handle and the gather the stitches tightly and top with a pompom.

Sorry if that’s a bit vague but it was rather a long time ago late 60’s when I made it. It’s reminded me though that I really could do with a tea cosy so I might have a go at this myself.

Forgot to say the last 4 stitches in a row should be in colour 1.
