Do I use CC?

I get paid next Tuesday and OH gets paid next Thursday.

Situation is - friends of ours had a new baby last week and they have invited us around tomorrow. That is their and our only opportunity for the next few weeks due to work committments etc. We gave other friends in the group £25 vouchers when their babies arrived so we feel we have to this time aswell.

We have food shopping today and I have totally used up everything I have in the cupboards and freezer except for some chicken (for 1 meal only) and fish fingers, bearing in mind we have a 3 year old otherwise it would be fish fingers everyday until next Tuesday!!

Do I dip into the CC yet again with an already £7K debt on there already.

thanks
Caz

  • Do I dip into the CC yet again...
If this is happening more often than not then NO. From the above statement it sounds like it's a habit that when you're short of cash you use the credit card. You need to get out of that thinking ASAP because your debt is going to creep up bit by bit.
You don't HAVE to get them £25 vouchers just to fit in with your friends.... how about something more personal.. like why don't you take a nice photo of them and then have it printed and framed as their present??

    Que sera, sera. <3
  • You could perhaps make up a baby hamper for them, with things they'll need, or toys. That would be less expensive to make and more personal. If you didn't want to use a wicker basket, you could put it all in a nice decorated bag or nappy change bag. It might not get used right away if she already has one, but I'm sure it would be welcome at some point.
  • Definately not. Try "we're broke at the moment, but we'll sort something out later". It seems harsh but it's amazingly empowering. Try it!

Time for another look at your SOA.
  • How about "forgetting" the voucher tomoro and then say you'll drop it round another time?

With a very small baby, the last thing on their mind will be a £25 voucher - they'll just be happy to see you!
  • I think some (maybe all) credit card companies now treat vouchers as cash when you buy them on a cc so it will not cost you just £25. You'll get cash charges on top as well as the interest which is payable from the purchase date even if you clear the card in full.

DEBT FREE SINCE APRIL 2008!!!! YIPPEEEEEE!!!!!
  • Thank you peeps

I forgot to mention that we have £52 left before I get paid next Tuesday.

I would make something for them but I have the imagination of a carrot.

I like the idea of saying I have left it on the side at home and will pop it in but I'm not sure who else will be there and I will get sooooo embarrassed.
  • I forgot to mention aswell - god im being really dizzy today - it doesn't help when someone has bid for my item on ebay but not bothered coughing up since Sunday despite an invoice and email.
