Do I qualify for JSA?

Hi,

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. Basically I am wondering if I qualify for Job Seeker's Allowance (JSA). I have been in full-time employment for the past 10 years and have paid thousands of pounds in tax in that time. I am now 30, single, and have a mortgage on a property, so suppose I have an asset. Does JSA only apply for those that rent or have dependent families? I am planning to find out more tomorrow down the job centre.

As you have been in full time employment and paying NI presumably then you will be entitled to six months contribution based JSA. If still unemployed after that it would be income based which takes savings into account

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

  • You don't qualify for Job Seeker's Allowance unless you are currently unemployed. If you have recently become unemployed then the chances are you do qualify.

I'm certain you can find out far more about your individual circumstance by looking here:

  • A lot of it depends on much savings you have. Even if you're unemployed I believe you have to have less than XXX amount of savings to qualify.

Only for the income based one. As another poster said, if OP has been employed for 10 years then they should get the contributions based JSA if they are currently unemployed.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I guess the people to ask is the job centre.
