Free Phone & Line Rental?? Scam Or Not?

Hi not sure if this is the correct place for this but would be interested to hear if anyone has been sent a similar deal and taken it up?
I was sent a text from a mobile phone company called New Mobile (Glasgow) who are selecting Vodafone customers and inviting us to call a free phone number (0800198 7777). Apparantly on a limited offer based on a first come first served basis. I called them and the deal is true.
800 minutes cross network & landline & 500 texts per month on O2 with a selection of 3 different free mobile phones to choose from. The deal is you pay £40 p/month and then upon sending them 3 months of paid bills they send you a cheque for £120. This continues throughout the 18month contract. Seems to be too good to be true and must be some hidden charges somewhere but apparantly not. They hope you will take a further 18month contract out with them after the deal.
I would be interested if anyone has been offered a similar deal?

No knowledge of this company, but the usual catch is you failing to meet the very strict terms of the refund policy, if you go to the mobile phone forum you will find out how this often works, or more often does not work and you lose outGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0

I did a similar offer a year ago with a company called buymobilephones.com and it was great. I got the then new LG Chocolate phone for free, was put on the same orange contract as I had been before and on sending back 3 months bills I got a PSP and £50 game card. It was great!
The box was a bit tatty but nothing wrong with it at all. I think they work on a comission basis and the gifts they probably get cheap due to things such as tatty boxes.

I have successfully done this with good companies and had problems with others. There are forums on MSE where you can read others experiences.
Possible pitfalls are...
1. Company goes bust leaving you with a contract but without your cashback. I would therefore recommend e2save which is a branch of Carphone Warehouse as this is possible the most established company. Also don't take a contract you would not otherwise be happy paying the full amount for, just in case this does happen.
2. Terms are pretty strict, for example if you miss the first cashback, you may not be entitled to claim any more. You must be super-organised and always send claims recorded delivery.
If you are aware, you will probably be fine. I recently got a free 12 month deal by going to e2save through quidco which paid me £36.50!

I would treat it as a scam. How did this company get you number? Why would vodafone give out your number to move to another network? There are plenty of these companies that text and call offering specials on behalf of one of the networks and most seem to have nothing to do with the network.
Treat any unsolicited mobile sales calls as a scam and you wont have problems.Lets not use quidco0 -
I agree with Steven there is no way it's from Vodaphone they are just targeting Vodaphone customers having bought a list from someone who has gathered your information in a comp or survey that you've filled in previously. If you want a cashback deal as Tarquin says there are loads featured on the Mobile board and often rated by other members who have tried them out so have a good look around before you give your business to this firm.:beer:0

I had a similar deal with Three.
It is a really good deal. Works out that you get it all free so long as you don’t go over your allowance.
The way the company make their money is that they rely on people missing the deadlines for claiming their cash back. Even if you miss just one deadline then this voids the cash-back offer for the rest of the contract.
Several of my friends and family have done this and benefited from this. But one of my claims went missing half way through the last contract I had like this one, and I ended up losing out on the rest of the cash-back offer. I did complain to them about the claim being sent to them on time. They advised me to take it up with the Royal Mail. On contacting the royal mail they advised me that the most I could get to compensate my loss was £30 if it was sent recorded.
Strongly advise to check the Terms & Conditions on this one, and send your claims recorded delivery (so as the company cant deny receiving it).
