Cheese as wedding favours

Hello,
I'm getting married January 2017, and looking to finalise some of the smaller details.
One thing my OH is keen on is a cheese cake (as in layers of cheese). We're going to have this with the main wedding cake, but would also like to use it as wedding favours. We were thinking of letting guests pack up their own, with some sort of personalised packaging - be that bags, nice wrapping, boxes etc.
Having a look on NOTHS, Etsy etc but not having much joy. Does anyone have any idea where we could find suitable packaging from for something like this?
Thanks,
IW x

Ebay - they have literally everything from boxes, to bags and all personalised or personalisable by yourselves if you want to keep costs down.
I would be a little wary about the cheese idea for favours - not everyone shares such a passion for a specific foodstuff, and with it being the cake as well, you risk alienating people who can not take either a piece of cake or a favour. Perhaps some alternative favours for those who either cannot eat (due to dietary restrictions) or those who just plain don't like cheese.0 -
What kind of cheese?
Technically it's best wrapped in paper. Grease proof style. However if it's warm inside and soft cheese it may start to ooze and smell.
Personally I hate cheese and the stink of a cambazola that was running away across the table would offend me. My partner however would be on cloud nine.
I think if it's soft you run the risk of people loving the idea and filling a rucksack. Hating it and pulling a face at the smell...
If it's hard you'll have less of the pulling a face issues.
If you go to serious cheese shops such as the aptly named cheese shop in Louth they use paper and paper bags. But that could end up very pricey as people could stuff them. And some will. I can't even open my fridge right now as my fella has a particularly stinky Camembert in there.
I'm sorry I had no idea how strongly I dislike cheese until I read my rants back.

Not sure id want to take home a piece of cheese that has sat around and most likely been touched by others. Fair enough if you gave mini wax coated and personalised pieces of cheese, but i wouldnt be tempted to take a chunk off the 'cake' as my favour. All events ive been to that have a cheese cake, by the end of the evening, its looking quite forlorn.0

My first thoughts would be how would you keep the cheese favours cool enough to be edible at the end of the day/night; there's nothing worse than warm cheese (unless it's camembert that's been cooked to eat hot).Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
I love cheese. Reallyy love cheese. But that sounds gross to me.
And I don't think I know anyone who would help themselves to it. It's like at a party getting the guests to cut and bag their own cake slices. I'd just pass on it to avoid having to do that.
Plus, if each guest did decide to do it, how long is that going to take?! How many guests will you have?
If you want to give cheese (weird) then do it for them.0 -
If you are going to do this, I would suggest pre cutting the cheese into individual pieces and keeping it refrigerated, as people are saying theres nothing more unappetizing than food other people have mauled. The opposite of what you know...is also true0

Cheese favours seem impractical for quite a few reasons - the hygiene element, if people are allowed to help themselves. Storage - if you've got guests who've travelled a long way and have overnight hotel stays and long drives home a lump of cheddar is not going to fare well.
Mess - letting guests cut up and box their own cheeses is going to get messy after they've had a few drinks, especially if you have soft cheeses.
Could you give them little jars of chutney or packs of crackers as favours to keep the cheese theme going?0 -
We had tiered cheeses at our wedding and they were very popular, people helped themselves and went up for seconds. (We didn't get to sample all the cheeses as they got scoffed before we had time to get to them.) Some didn't want cheese but we had cake as another option.
As a favour, it's a nice idea but see it might not suit everyone. Unless we have an unseasonably warm January, those with long journeys/overnight stays will be fine to leave them in the boot of the car I'd have thought.0 -
I second what Fairy Light has said. I love cheese but if I was given stuff that had sat around all day I'd just bin it.
It will just be hot and sweaty and horrid by the time people get home.Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day. -- Sally Koch0
