    Hi Chish,

Explain what you mean by the above statement, you either have a DMP (debt management plan) or you don't.

Moorcroft can be ignored with their computer generated theatograms, they will be managing the debt for the original creditor, think toothless tiger, what is it you think they are going to do to you ? ?

They are basically a hired mouthpiece, nothing more.

It's most likely just a glitch at stepchanges end.

You contact stepchange, not moorcroft, who is the creditor moorcroft are collecting for ?

I assume they are aware of your DMP, in any case it may be prudent to remind them.

A short letter to moorcroft stating your on a DMP and giving your stepchange ref number, will silence them, also tell them not to contact you by phone again.

    Chish,

There are two types of debt collector.

Some are just hired to Collect debts on there clients behalf, others buy old debts from banks etc.

Those who are hired have no authority as its retained by the original creditor, so you can ignore them.

Those who buy old debts also inherit all rights and privileges of the original creditor, you should not ignore them.

A DCA will usually tell you if they have bought a debt, or are, as in moorcrofts case, just managing it.

I am no longer with Stepchange for my DMP but started out with them. Something similar happened with some of our accounts when we logged into our SC account online. It turned out (in our case) that the debt(s) were in the process of being transferred from original creditor to a debt collection agency. SC had tried to pay and the funds had been returned. Our account showed no payment had been made to the creditor. SC held the money and once they were notified of the DCA they paid all the money being held for that particular debt to the DCA.

Hopefully you will be in a similar situation but it's best to contact SC to confirm what's going on with your SC account.

Not sure what Moorcroft are playing at though so can't offer any advice on that score. Sorry

They may just of passed the debt to Moorcroft and its had the same reaction as if it had been sold.

Some creditors insist you deal with the DCA, when in fact that's incorrect.

Ah just read it's the Hellifax, that explains things lol
