If she is in to healthy foods why not make up a goody bag?

A small bag of cashews, protein bar, jar of nut butter. It will show that you have thought what she likes. (as long as you know she isn't allergic to nuts of course)

I'm buying all my colleagues a scratch card and rolling it up with ribbon around a lolly pop.

  • Do you think that a few travel sized bottles of things like shampoo, tiny tube of toothpaste, tiny bottle of body lotion, little bar of soap might be something she'd use next summer? I would love the practicality of something like that for my holidays. Another idea if she cooks at home would be some packets of seeds to grow fresh herbs on her windowsill again that's practical and would be useful over a fair period of time as there are many seeds in each packet and they would provide lots of pots of fresh herbs.

Not specifically for this person but maybe a couple of balls of wool, a couple of crochet hooks and print some "how to" instructions or links to some crochet blogs?

I always found a manicure set really handy in my handbag and you can get some nicely packaged ones now or maybe even a mini handbag size sewing kit.

I bought my sister some wool, knitting needles and a 'how to' guide for making a cool scarf, once. She gave me them back Boxing Day, wrapped back up with a note saying 'How old do you think I am?'

I don't think she liked the gift.

Just a suggestion for anyone looking for ideas, how about an Amaryllis bulb kit? It's just one huge bulb which comes with compost and a pot and it's in a box so easy to wrap. It can be planted indoors straight away and grows quickly on a window ledge, producing lovely showy flowers in a short time. All you have to do is water it.
You can get one around the £5 -7 mark if you hunt around, Waitrose, Morrison's and Wiko have been selling them, also garden centres though you'd probably have to pay a bit more.
  • What about one of those "Tea for one" Teapot/cup combos with some nice tea? Or since you work in the hospitality industry, find out her show size and get her some comfy ballet flats? Or maybe put together a "pamper pack" so she can look after herself as will as others i.e. face mask, travel sized moisturiser, bath soak, foot salts and one of those wooden foot roller things for after spending hours on her feet?
  • We've done Secret Santa as a group of friends (Not workplace!) for the last few Christmas's. £10 limit - but the gift(s) must come from a charity shop. So, you have to put some thought into it. Last year we said charity shop or make it yourself and give the balance to charity. There have been some amazing finds (fabulous vintage beaded evening cardigan) and a few hilarious 'kits' put together;- one for 'Dogging' (walking the dogs!) etc.

My team at work voted for SS , ours comes with its own challenges as we all work remotely and have never met face to face just in chat or on conference calls. Makes it a bit more challenging especially as weight for postage adds to the challenge.

One place I worked, we were all strapped for cash. We said to spend £1 to £2 per person.

One girl gave us £1 worth of penny sweets each, she'd wrapped them up individually! Someone else bought cheap mugs and drew what she thought of us on them! It was funny, she left a really quiet chap's mug blank! I've since realised that she didn't like me. Oh.

I was boring and bought them cheap slouch socks...with hidden chocolates in the toe parts!

We once rolled a dice for our secret Santa budget and it landed on 1 therefore £1, while all my colleagues hot footed it to poundland, I used my pound to make Christmas tree shaped shortbread (which was well recieved ) while I recieved a set of poundland wooden spoons - hopefully because I like to bake!!
Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"
