  • Freecycle is supposed to be about recycling goods you no longer have a use for, i.e. giving as well as receiving. It's not "Freebay" as you call it; its not supposed to be about just getting free stuff.

Apologies if I'm wrong here, but your "Freebay" comment makes it sound like you're just using it selfishly to get free stuff.

sorry i was having a laugh sorry if you took it the wrong way I'm actually very serious about environmental issues i.e switching off unwanted lights, saving water, recycling everything i possibly can, using my car only when necessary and if someone else has a use for it why should it go in the bin

  • Yes of course, you might as well have it if nobody else wants it. The way you put it just sounded a bit funny.

I actually do know some people who use Freecycle as "Freebay", getting free stuff and not giving anything back, so this is one of my bugbears. In fact I've known people to get stuff from Freecycle and sell it on Ebay to make a profit, which I think is despicable.
  • I know what you mean about using freecycle to get free stuff and then sell on, I bought 2 prams from a lady locally (via ebay), she had a few different onces there and I have noticed that she seems to very often have a rake of prams on sale on ebay, so I think that is what she may be doing (they don't seem to match up to here childrens ages etc either)

Anyway I can't prove it and live and let live and all that, but I do think it is wrong to use freecycle in that way, I have freecycled a fair bit of stuff, but have been put off doing it lately for this reason...I am back to giving to charity shops...

  • Hello, I love Freecycle and it is great when you get something you've been after for ages or something you really need, even if it's not an expensive something. I love the idea of my clutter getting loved again.

Sadly where I live it's 90% wanted ads at the moment, with a few items even ending up on Ebay. I find this infuriating, as it is really about keeping things out of the land fill and a bit of good will thrown in.

I'm sure this is not what you meant, it's just the europhora of getting something so great. Lucky you and lucky SIL. Have you thought about how you are going to match it next year?

I've just started freecycle and manage to get rid of items that are too bulky to sell on ebay and also items that prob wont sell on ebay. Ive not made any money but ive got some free space now..:j
  • Its true what u say. People just wating items on freecyle and forgetting what it is all about. I have read people asking for cars, caravans, laptops omg its become a joke and forgetting what the site is about.
I have been lucky to get a couple of items and truly pleased when someone came to collect my items I didnt want to tip, knowing they will be used again, but I think its disgusting people using it for financial gain. How low do some people sink.
On our site we are not allowed to make too many wanted posts for that reason that has been mentioned, and plus I wouldnt like to ask for something if I hadnt already offered items, then its fair all around.
    Happy freecycling
  • On our site we are not allowed to post any more than 3 wanted's in a month and I always put on stuff that I don't need anymore to try and balance it out infact most of the time I go on there and give stuff away that people are asking for the OH has joked that he'll come home to find an empty bit of land because i'll have freecycled the house LOL
