Credit Checks

A while ago, on here, I read about 'free' credit checks with a company. You gave your card details, and received 1 month free trial. You could then cancel the subscription. I duly reviewed my delightful credit report and have promptly forgotton the site. I am now being charged £5.99 per month and I can't remember the site. GRR. The details are not on the statement, and as it is card use, not DD I can't cancel them!!! Help who are they and how do I stop them!!!

Hi Foxy,

Good to hear from you again; hope everything is going well, apart from the monthly charges of course.  I'll have a quick look now and if I don't find them I'll post in the morning. I suspect you'll probably have the links by then but good to see you around.

Foxy,

There used to be three contact details here and the missing one is "Call Credit" I think.:confused:

The two listed below are the biggest so you've got an 80% probabilty of having the right ones.

Rich :kisses2:

The credit agencies' desire to sell us an ongoing ‘credit monitoring' service costing around £70 a year leaves a loophole open. To tempt you, they offer ‘free trials', which involve setting up a Direct Debit or regular credit card payment, in the hope you'll just let it drip from the account.
So sign up, then view your file at no cost (either instantly or after they've sent a passcode) and then cancel the subscription. Even though they allow 30 days, I'd do this straight away; leave it a month and you may forget.
• Equifax. Its Credit Watch Gold* has two options, one at £7.50 a month, but the one to choose is the ‘Free for 30 days and then £69.99 for the year'. When you sign up a payment card will need to be authorised but the £1 fee is not actually charged to your card if you cancel in time. To request cancellation call 0870 0100583 and quote your account reference.
• Experian. Its Credit Expert* offers a ‘free 30 day trial then £6.99 per month' service. To cancel, call the free-phone number 0800 656 9000, or email customerservice@creditexpert.co.uk
If you're worried about hassle, and just want a simple online report, then use the CheckMyFile*, credit report, which for £16.95 provides some credit details from all three agencies, in one very easy to understand report.
• Thanks Richie, it's the second one. £6.99 per month. Can't see how to cancel it at all (maybe me!) But have emailed them with my upset and disgust.
All pretty pants really. OH no job. No home (actually homeless... and staying at parents-in-law) had the car broken into and loads of stuff nicked including my 8 year old autistic child's suitcase (how kind-he has no clothes) and have no idea what to do next. Very daunted by trying to find a house to rent.
Nevermind things could be worse.

Hi Foxy,

That's bloody awful, there really are some despicable creeps in this country. I thought you'd probably moved abroad and started a new life there; couldn't have been more wrong by the sound of it.

I was under the impression that you had to call Experian rather than email them but I've never done it so don't know from experience.

I sincerely hope things start looking up for you in the near future and I'm sure with your determination they will.

Best regards

Rich
• savagevixen,

Sorry to hear that things are so pants for you at the moment...

The Credit Expert thing is dead easy to cancel, just the number that Richard_S gives, 0800 656 9000, Option 4, and you speak to an operator and say you want to cancel your account, they ask for your name, address, DOB and mothers maiden name and that's it done.

No hard sell as to why you're cancelling either which I was dreading :)

How do you pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on... when in your heart, you begin to understand. There is no going back. There are some things that time cannot mend... some hurts that go too deep. That have taken hold.
