As a long time lurker thought would share my recent experience to give all hope!!
Moving and purchasing new build - had DIP from HSBC as current provider plus Wife has worked for them for 20 years! All going well so we thought, the fastest we could get a telephone appointment for full application was two weeks but decision would be made on day. Day arrives - and declined! No reason given - not even referred to underwriters. We had previously checked CRA and all clear, LTV was fine etc..... They really tried to get us to staircase a mortgage alongside the current one as we could easily afford which we did not want to do. Result distraught Wife as never have been declined anywhere and the attitude and customer service was beyond poor. Cue panic as due to exchange on the 25th Nov.
So we used a recommendation of a broker from a relative - this was new ground for us so somewhat wary. Anyway application in on Thursday 17th November, valuation completed on the 18th November and full Mortgage Offer given - yes within 24 hours of application going in!!
I am still gobsmacked in a great way and we are exchanging on Friday!!
So I have to say well done to my broker and Halifax - stunning service. And to HSBC well you are losing more just than a mortgage account - every product we have with you is going!! (yes part of the reason posting is to put the boot into HSBC - will never ever use again!).
So to all a decline is horrible... but don't let it get you down and remain positive as can be resolved.
