Balance transfer problem

Options
My mum agreed to transfer two sub prime balances for small amounts onto a new 0% interest on balance transfers card which is in her name and I will pay . This is with Halifax . However she got an email saying that the balance transfer failed . When she spoke to Halifax they suggested it might be because I am at a different address from her and one way round this was to temporarily change the address on my cards to that of my mum and this would work . We did extensive checking on here and other sites and the common consensus is that you can transfer a balance to someone else's card yet when we did this it didn't work . Can anyone help I have had no credit until this summer and stupidly took out a Vanquis card which no matter how big the payments I make to it seems to accumulate loads of interest . Can anyone advise please

I'd suggest their suggestion was incorrect. It's been reported on here that Vanquis don't put their payment details into 'the system' used for BTs. If your mum wants to help, the best way would be to try and get a money transfer card (MBNA or Virgin), get the 0% cash, and send it to you to settle the cards from your current account (FP or debit card).

    What's the other card?
  • It's Aqua . I've checked and neither of them are owned by Halifax . Do you think that once she gets the card and I've moved my addresses to hers it should work ? I can't handle much more Vanquis paid £100 this month to a £480 balance and on time and it's still sitting at £460!

I had no problem bal trans to clear the last on a vanquis card recently, but it was trans to a 0% card in my own name.

The biggest issue for the OP is if the change of address and bal trans might lead to her and her mum having linked credit files which could then worsen her mums credit worthiness.

I thought some companies allow BT to other peoples cards some DONT, only from a card in the new cardholders name.

Something does not add up here - assuming an interest rate of 40% interest on £480 would be in the region of £16.
If you have the really expensive card charging 70% then the monthly interest would be approx £28.

Are you still spending on these cards?

Nah...the really expensive card is 79.9% APR (for purchases...cash is 99.99% APR).

There will be more than a months interest though...although not on the entire balance. But I agree it still doesn't add up.

Pay the full balance two months running and don't use the card for cash transactions. That'll stop the interest.
  • I haven't used the card since September . I have only used it for purchases . I pay normally the minimum payment plus £10 but last month I paid £100 in total however am wondering if it hasn't had time to produce a statement and that's why it still doesn't add up . My mum has the Halifax card now . So will it be worthwhile transferring the balances of the cards now she has it and I've moved my address on my cards ?
  • What are the balances?
  • £300 on Aqua and £480? On vanquis as I am waiting on latest vanquis statement
