I don't agree with a default. HELP!

I had a default on my credit file from 2013 (partner at the time took out a loan and didn't pay it). This is fine. I accept the debt. Since then I have moved house. In June 2016 a default was added to my account. I know ive made payments on time for over two years. Turns out this company (motormile finance) now owns the debt from 2013. I emailed them and informed them that they had the date of the default wrong. They replied saying it was right as they wrote to me saying they'd do it if I didn't pay the money owed. I asked which address they sent it to. Its my old address. So I never received that letter and I didn't know I owed this company any money. I have offered to pay the full amount if they put the date of the default back to 2013 but they have said no. I have also asked experian to help. They said they will wtite to the company to try and get them to remove it but motormile are the only ones who can remove or change the default. Is there anything I can do? I don't think it's fair to make it look as though I can't manage money, when I can, without even informing me that I owed them any money. Thanks in advance.

    Yes complain to the ICO.

They deal with complaints of this nature.

Motormile Finance are a particularly nasty, bottom feeder DCA.

Don't expect any leniency from them.

Ive never actually heard of them before now. Do you think I should pay it anyway to show that ive done my part to the ICO or should I not pay it until motormile put my information back to how it should be?

And do you think I am in the right here? Or are they allowed to do this because they did send a letter?

Thank you for your advice :)

Makes no difference to be honest, if you pay it or not, that's up to you, this is a separate issue, the default date shown on your credit file by MMF should have the same date as the original default.

If it doesn't, then it's incorrect, and you should complain about it.

They are not allowed to register incorrect information no.

Thank you so much. I have emailed ICO with a complaints form and the screenshots of their emails and the information that is on my credit file from them so will hopefully be resolved soon.
