How much info can supermarkets get from credit cards

Evening all,
I just had a random thought earlier (as you do!), how much personal information can supermarkets get when you use a credit card to pay for regular shopping in store? I'd assume that because of data protection and the obvious security they can't get anything like full name or address from it? I understand they would if you use a loyalty card too as all of your details are linked to that.
