Incorrect default date on Lowells account

Hi everyone thanks in advance for your help here!

I have been reading through and searching to try and find answers here but as always I could not find the answers that I am looking for...

Here is the lowdown:

Debts from when I was a teenager stupidly given credit defaulted in December 2010 - Eventually debts sold to a variety of collectors before landing in the Lowells pile. This year I decided to sort out my life and try and clean up my credit record been - Partially settled the lowells debt (probably should have left it but just wanted it done)

The problem I have is that I believe the original debt defaulted in Dec 10 however the Lowells debt is not recorded until Oct 11 and as a separate account however the account balance is the same as the original account defaulted in 2010. So the account that defaulted in Dec 10 should be coming of my report next month (yay!) and will be the final negative mark I have so it is a big deal for me, however I will still be left with a default for the same account from Lowells.

The account numbers are different and the only factor I have to relate them to each other is the balance.

So basically I feel a little bit lost about how I go about dealing with this the 2010 account should drop of my report next month which may leave me without any proof of the original default though I have ordered a paper copy of my credit report and I have a PDF of my Noddle report as well.

Anyone able to help point me in the right direction would be fantastic!

Thanks a lot,

    Hi,

    Welcome to MSE.

You could dispute this through the credit reference agency's, but in practice they will go to Lowell, Lowell will say it's correct, bang, no further ahead.

Best course of action is to send a written complaint to Lowell telling them what you've told us.

See what they have to say about it.

If your still not happy, complain to the information commissionaire (ICO).
