Double loan application - not sure of the rules

Hello, first post on here and hoping for some help. I applied for a loan with Santander to purchase a car last Saturday and was accepted and then put the deposit down on a car on the Sunday. Since then I tried to return the signed loan agreement but Royal Mail have lost it despite it being sent recorded delivery. Customer service from Royal Mail is non existent (as always), even the guy in the post office I sent it said they are useless. Santander are showing no willingness to help and asked if I could be part of the e-signature trial they are running to expedite but got a no. I get there are processes but their attitude to trying to help me has been terrible. With that in mind I applied for a loan with Zopa on Friday as they can fast track the transfer of funds and I now don't want to give Santander the money I'd be repaying in interest, that loan is "under review". It was a bit impulsive, I admit that.

Does anyone know if Sanatnder are likely to cancel the loan offer should the paperwork turn up given I've now applied for this second loan. Also, I take it Zopa are unlikely to approve once an underwriter sees this. Intention is obviously to cancel one of them.

Just really don't want to miss out on the car.

Thanks.

  • Get the finance off the garage and pay it back as soon as somebody gives you the loan.
Hindsight; though - if time was of the essence why did you not apply in a branch where you could have signed on the premises and the funds in your account before you walked out the building?
