Working a month in hand

Options
Hi good morning to everyone.
I'm looking for a bit of advice please as everyone I have spoken to are giving me different dates.
Basically hubby starts a new job on Monday (21st) November.... he's been told he has to work a month in hand and that everybody gets paid on the 28th of each month.
Does this mean he will get paid on the 28th December or have to wait 9 weeks and get paid on the 28th Jan
Worried sick :-(((
Any help would be appreciated
Thankyou

He will get paid on 28th December, for the month of December, and probably what he is owed for November as it is probably too late to be included on Novembers payroll

may even get Decembers before Christmas, He will work a month before getting paid, not two months
  • Many Thanks for your reply I understood it like that however so many have said the end of January, so i started to panic he will find out for definite on Monday I thought waiting 9 weeks to get paid was too long
    Thanks again

For a definite answer to this question your husband really needs to ask his payroll dept. It will probably be December but I have known employers use this "month in hand" phrase to mean the December payment would be for the few November days and the December work would be paid in January. Only way to be sure is to ask.
  • Someone on another thread has just said....

He will get paid for the 21st-Nov to the 28th-Nov on the 28th Dec
And from the 28th Nov - 28th dec he will get paid on the 28th Jan so yes he has to wait two months to get a full months pay

Many people use the expression "a month in hand" when they really mean "a month in arrears".

I genuinely don't believe this would be the case, It is possible of course but I don't think there are many employers would use this system

28th December is what 99.99% of people would expect. He should double-check with payroll though.

The longest I ever heard was when somebody started a new job just after the (earlier) December pay cut-off date and had to wait until the end of January. That was just pure bad luck.
  • Hopefully not
We will have to wait until Monday to find out thanks again
