  • Thanks all of you, some great ideas, the one with the empty plate with crumbs is appealing,:rotfl: but much as I am tempted I am going to make something! You have all inspired me, DD is getting quite excited about the prospect of making (trial run) and trying these yummy recipes at the weekend. She thinks that she I can make them all and then she and her sister could eat them all, I think not!

So thanks.... maybe they will think that I am a domestic goddess after all, good job they don't know me!:o

Glad you're feeling happier about this now (and do let us all know how it goes) but as it's your husband who has to take cake to his place of work where they are all competitive shouldn't he be making it? Or do they get competitive about the baking skills of their OHs and Mothers? I'm picturing the scene... my Mum's Victoria sponge could take your girlfriend's gataux any time...You having a go at my Mum's sponge?

PS My mate (who is a domestic goddess really but was short of time) got a packet of madelines from Lidl, sliced off the pointy tops and iced then with chocolate icing and then she and DD decorated them with silver balls, sprinkles etc and called them cup cakes - they sold out at the school fair within minutes!

Personally I think that if his work is having a homemade cake selling day thingy, then he should be the one making it. It has nothing whatsoever to do with you, and frankly I find it demeaning that the "little woman" is expected to do this.

  • How about the weetabix brownies - there is a recipe on the index - dead easy and delicious with a cup of tea. Also not many people have tried/ heard of them before....

    Quite keen moneysaver......
  • Buy value fairy buns and cut a little cone out of the top of each. Make (or buy) some buttercream and fill the holes. Cut the little cones in half and stick in the top like wings. Dust with icing sugar - voila - butterfly buns!

Fruit loafs are usualy pretty easy and failsafe as well.

I did that bought some pre-made value cakes from sainburys made some water icing and put sprinkles on top. My husband took them to work for what ever reason. And they asked if I belonged to the WI as they where so nice :rotfl:
