Bin diving? Does anyone do it?

I didn't know where to post this, but felt this may be the right place.
I was thinking about this the other night, when I visited my local small supermarket.
It was 9.30 and they were putting loads of stuff in black plastic sacks to throw away.
I asked if I could have any of it, but they said that I would have to pay the full price for it.
When I got home, I though about a programme which I had seen where they investigated "bin diving" - going around supermarkets and retrie the food waste.
Has anyone on here had a go at it, and if so was it worth it?ving

Used to when I was skint & they didn't lock their bins up around here. Lived like a king for a few years, used to get cases of olive oil & even champagne chucked out because one of the bottles was broken & the labels were stained.0
