I second this approach. I've tried so many different things and this way is cheapest and works best...

Especially if the top-ups are in cash, so when it's gone, it's gone. Interesting how much you realise you don't 'need'!
A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

    CHALLENGES

    2025 Declutter:
    1 CONTAINER (box/bag/folder etc) per day; 50/365
1 FROG (minimum) per week; 6/52
WEIGHT I'll start with 25 lbs (though I need to lose more!) and see how it goes...🤔 0/25

    2025 NSDs: 15 per MONTH - FEB 4/15; JAN 21/15
    2025 Fashion on the Ration: (carried over from 2024) 10+66 = 76
2025 Make Do, Mend & Minimise No target, just remember to report!

@Cool Runnings - What about getting herbs and spices? Cheap, they last a long time and you can use them to vary dishes without spending huge amounts on things you may not like...

I think you are me basketcase
I buy herbs and spices in Ald1 and set £1 as a budget for these. Usually 2 different herbs and spices a week. Oh, and I also do weekly top-up shops with cash
If you have built castles in the air, your work should not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them

    Emergency fund 350/1000
    Buffer fund 100/100

Thanks basketcase, I have started doing that quite recently. I rearranged my kitchen so I have a nice spot now with a wooden tray holding my oils, salt, pepper, herbs and spices. All looks rather fancy! :D I have a bit of space to add to the collection too.
  • Welcome to MSE cool runnings !! Keep it up - another hand for a seat on the bobsleigh to join you for your Journey.:grouphug:

    Ooooooooh, get you! :D

As, you'll probably have guessed, mine are in a cupboard,

My story is that they keep better in the dark. And I'm sticking to it.

The fact I don't have a posh wooden tray has no bearing on the matter at all...:rotfl:

I might have overstated things a tad when I said it looked fancy - it certainly doesn't look posh perched as it is on top of an old TV stand! :rotfl:
