Helppppppp

I have been paying my creditors via Payplan for over a year now and was surprised to get a letter from a debt collection agency last week. They have told me to pay up or they'll send the local agent around to collect the debt.

Since then I have received a letter from payplan saying that they haven't received payment since June even though my direct debit to payplan was getting paid out.

I have found out that the bank messed up the payment to payplan by using the wrong reference code. Therefore the last 3 payments have went to payplan but were not applied to pay off my creditors.

I have explained everything to payplan and sent them evidence of the banks mistake and my case officer has told me he will try and sort it out.

Today I have received another letter from the debt collection agency. I decided to phone them and they have told me that payplan have yet to contact them and that they have been unable to get through for several days. They have given me untill friday to resolve the situation.

the problem is that I have been unable to get through to payplan and have sent them a dozen urgent emails but to no avail.

I am now going to get my house visited and the debt recovered and I don't know what to do. I have evidence that payments were made to payplan but these guys don't care - they just want the debt.

To make matters worse another creditor has set these guys on me.

What am I supposed to do?

  • Please try not to worry.. easier said than done I know but a debt collector has no powers to do anything if they come to your house. You don't even have to open the door to them. Just keep on payplan's case but it's their balls up so they need to sort it out.

    Hi there
Have the bank admitted to you in writing that they messed up? If not perhaps they could write a letter stating this, to get the debt people off your back?

Other than that, I would assume that payplan will now pay 3 installments in one and set matters straight.

As IA says you don't have to let the debt collector in, so just ignore the threat.

I want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?
  • Hey,

Try not too worry - things are never as bad as they seem *hugs*!

Right you need to bombard Payplan until you get a result (speaking as an EX Payplan customer myself :( ) ... they will not get on with the matter in hand without you ringing 3, 4 if not 5 times a day. I know you can be on hold for an eternity, but they never respond to e-mails unless its something 'simple'!

Keep on at them, the DCA won't care whats happened or why they'll just wanna get paid as pointed out elsewhere. If someone does show up on Friday - don't let them in, and stay calm - don't worry yourself Belfast! :)

If Payplan were receiving payments from your bank account if they put in a bit of effort they could of established whom the payments had been made by with or without the reference number, that is an excuse - esp after 3 months worth of payments. And more to the point ... if they didn't believe they were being paid, why not contact you sooner?! GAH PAYPLAN!!! grrrr!

Badger them til you get a response Belfast!!!
  • Payplan sent me a text message weeks ago regarding missed payment but I couldn't get through to them to query the text message. I checked my bank statement and seen that the payment was sent so thought no more of it.

If only they had contacted me via post instead of a dopey blunt text message I could of sorted this mess out ages ago.

Thanx all for the advice guys - I really do appreciate it. I'll be bombarding Payplan tomorrow and might even take my case to my local BBC phone-in radio show. They usually get things done. :cheesy:

  • you poor thing I can understand how stressful this must be.

Clear a couple of hours in your schedule and really make a nuisance of yourself - phone bank, payplan etc and stay on the phone until the issue is sorted.

Whatever happens don't panic, it really doesn't help!

  • Did you get it resolved Belfast? :)
  • Payplan finally phoned me on Fri afternoon and told me all the creditors had been written to and informed of the situation. Payplans account department will be making back payments to them shortly and asking for any DCA fees to be refunded. They assured me not to worry any more and were confident things would be all sorted in the next few days.

It lifted a great weight of my shoulders and hopefully I'll get back on track to getting these !!!!!!s of my back forever.
