The OP has a gas central heating with a combi - so no hot water tank.

He specifically referred to diverting electricity for heating:

I specifically referred to calculations to pay for an immersun using diverted electricity for heating:

Now what part of that do you not understand?
There's no part of it that I don't understand.

I was simply pointing out that I (and no doubt many others) receive a derisory amount for exported units and are always likely to try and avoid exporting.

It really doesn't matter what alternative uses are considered - using your own electricity (by any available means) is almost always going to be more beneficial than selling it at derisory rates.

Yes it is well recognised how much those with domestic solar arrays are exploited. i.e. paid for every kWh you generate and don't need to export a kWh.;)

My point was to the OP pointing out that when diverting electricity to heating(oil filled radiator) any savings should be priced at the price he pays for gas, when considering recouping the £250 cost of an immersun type device. e.g 1,000kWh diverted to the heater would save around £30.

    P.S.
I note the Guru has added yet another ' thank you' - I bet you swell with pride with such hard earned praise. Guess who sent me this very accurate accolade?

Firstly let me apologise for sending you a message direct.

Secondly, let me apologise for mis-judging you.

The more of your posts on PV I read, the clearer it has become that I should never have lumped you together with
    .

Whilst being tagged teamed, I failed to separate the two argument threads appropriately.

I can see now that you are simply trying to express a reasonably negative side to PV, which is yet to prove itself as regards domestic UK installs. This seems a sensible side to express on a site such as MSE. Where hype and conjecture could mislead those who fail to fully research such a new technology.

Lastly, anyone who can make me spit coffee out with a line like that about stilettos, deserves more respect.

Sincerest apologies again for any and all aggressive / obnoxious comments I have made. However, I did thoroughly enjoy the discussion and extrapolating / reviewing the data.

I find those that have a solar array are more aware of consumption and end up being low users of energy from the grid. Is that not a good thing?.
I have a 4 bed house and now only use 900 kwh a year as opposed to over 3000 kWh before I had the solar panels.

Hiya Chuckles. Have a thank you if they mean so much to you.

If I recall correctly, I tried to offer you an olive branch 4 to 5 years ago, to spare the threads from our disagreements. To which you appeared to be responsive:
I certainly haven’t taken offence at your posts, my only ‘irritation’ was that you seemed focussed on the detail without addressing the wider issue.

Still no doubt the debate will rumble on and your contributions are well written and welcomed.

however on forum, you promptly responded by telling folk on here that I was a rich investor in RaR schemes, whilst your tag-team partner claimed I was a PR consultant for the PV industry, or a FOE anti-nuclear 'agent'!

    You couldn't make it up!

    Oops! Obviously you can.

It seems you are a lost cause, only finding pleasure in spreading misinformation and being devisive.

However, there is still much value is seeing that you bet the farm on PV not working, and it's probably the biggest success story of this decade. Perhaps it's your embarrassment, that drives you on in your anti-PV campaign, long, long after you lost it (in more ways than one).

Chill out, it's nearly Xmas, and those evil PV'ers will be generating less for a month or two. :)

PS Chuckles. The offer still stands. Anytime you want to bury the hatchet and start acting like a grown up, I'm more than happy to follow suit.

    Hugs and kisses, Marty.

  • Bloody ell......sorry if I have caused a brawl.......interestingly I get that if my water is heated by gas, then any savings should be costed against current gas bills.

To take us off thread again has anyone got a decent link where I can estimate what my FIT payments might look like going forward pls?
    Thank you muchly

Don't worry it's nothing new. A small number of folk don't like PV and FiTs.

Going forward, try a simple spreadsheet with your estimated annual generation multiplied by the FiT + (1/2 Export), giving you an annual total.

Then on line 2 multiple that total by 1.5% (*for example) for the 2nd years income, and keep repeating till year 20.

Actual figures though will vary each day due to weather. My percentage against target (without allowing for degradation) has varied from 99% to 108%. This year will be about 102%.

    * Assuming 2% inflation and 0.5% panel degradation.

There's also leccy savings, which will probably go up by more than inflation. I don't know how best to approach this. The NAO suggest a rise in wholesale costs to 7p in 2027 and 6p in 2035, so that's around 2-3p/kWh more than inflation over the next 20 years - about 20%(?) on top of current rates?

I have the immerSUN, which has 3 outputs. They went under in June but have been bought by another firm and the monitoring system has been back online and stable for a few months now, so assume they are OK
Hopefully it's just a temporary fault but the MyImmersun facility stopped working last night and hasn't been restored this morning (yet !).
