Claiming Pension Credits

Iam unemployed and claiming long term incapacity benefit,
I will be 60 next year, will I be able to claim Pension credits
instead of claiming Incapacity benefit.

Comments

  • I am not an expert on this, but I think it is better to continue to claim Incapacity Benefit if you can as Pension Credit is means-tested. Therefore if you have any other income and/or savings above a certain amount you may end up worse off. (Incapacity Benefit is only means-tested if you have an Occupational Pension and does not count any other income or any savings).

Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • I do not have any other income and I don't have enough savings to
effect the amount I would get,so if I qualified for Pension Credits I would be
    better off

I just want to know if I have the option to claim Pension Credits when I
    reach 60.
