Hi all, last Xmas I loaned an old friend £2500,supposedly for 1 week. He has paid back only £800,and has stopped returning my calls, texts etc.
I have opened a case with MCOL,judgement has been issued, and on wednesday the 14 days I gave him to pay is up. He has made no attempts to pay/contact me , so I am here to ask whats the best way to enforce this? What's the difference between county court and high court bailiffs? He is self employed if that helps..

Didn't have a contract, but plenty in "writing" in the form of emails/txts back and forth where he acknowledges the debt, and makes various promises to pay....

Does he own anything? well, he and the missus have a house (mortgaged) and all the usual consumer goods...I don't know if she has a car, almost certainly I think. he has a van he uses from his work-and many tools,he's a builder.

The OP already has a court judgement in their favour over this matter ;)

You don't set the time limit to pay up - the court does.
    What does the judgement allow?
  • No, after judgement was issued, I was asked how I wanted to proceed..whether I wanted all owing up to be paid immediately, in installments, or to name a time limit for payment. I opted to give him 14 days to pay..which is up on wednesday. Next step is enforcement, which is why I am asking about bailiffs...

That sounds most unusual. Are you sure you have the actual judgement yet? The one endorsed by the issuing court?

If so, please post the wording of that judgement word for word (leaving out identifying words suchs as any names or addresses mentioned)
